Urban Waters Federal Partnership

In May 2013, the Proctor Creek Watershed was listed as one of 19 priority waterways under the Urban Waters Federal Partnership Program.  The program, launched in 2011 aims to “reconnect urban communities, particularly those that are overburdened or economically distressed, with their waterways by improving coordination among federal agencies and collaborating with community-led revitalization efforts to improve our Nation’s water systems and promote their economic, environmental and social benefits.”  In the Proctor Creek Watershed, five federal agencies have been described as “champions” for the local effort: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
